A minivan with a baby in the backseat was stolen Monday in West Philadelphia, but the infant was found safe a half-hour later, police said.
Police said the infant was dropped off on the steps of a home at Penn and Greene streets in the Penn-Knox section of Germantown. The baby appeared to be uninjured but was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children for evaluation.
The thief provided the information about where he had deposited the baby, police said, but it wasn't immediately clear how he delivered that information.
The minivan remains missing.
The 4-month-old baby's father told police he left the white Town and Country minivan running with the infant in the backseat while he ran inside a store at 4800 Walnut Street at 7:51 a.m.
Police reported about 8:40 a.m. that the baby had been found safe.
The van's Pennsylvania license plate begins with JMX and anyone who sees the car is asked to call 9-1-1.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
