Investigators have discovered two knives near the scene of a deadly weekend stabbing near Rittenhouse Square.

The weapons were found in planters on the 1800 block of Manning Street on Thursday afternoon and investigators were probing their possible connection to the fatal stabbing, police said.

Steven Simminger, a 40-year-old from Delaware County, is accused of stabbing Colin McGovern when a dispute about Simminger's New Jersey Devils hat turned violent.

McGovern, 24, of Bucks County, apparently made a comment to Simminger about the hat, and tussle soon turned violent, police said.

The slaying happened at about 3 a.m. Sunday, when McGovern and three friends were looking for a hotel after a night of barhopping in Center City.

Simminger has been charged with murder and possession of an instrument of crime.
