Three people, including an 11-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital after a fire struck a home Tuesday night in the Burholme section of Northeast Philadelphia.
The blaze was reported at 8:30 p.m. In the 1100 block of Napfle Avenue, fire officials said. It was declared under control 30 minutes later.
Maria Layne, 32, who lived in the house with her family, said her son, teenage sister, and her 60-year-old mother were taken to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus to be monitored. She said her sister may have suffered minor burns, but thankfully she was in the shower and avoided more serious injuries.
"She ran out [of the house] dripping wet," Layne said as she stood, wrapped in a blanket, outside her home.
"Everybody was getting ready for bed" when the fire erupted in the first-floor living room, she said. Her boyfriend and his 5-year-old son also were inside but got out unscathed.
"I'm just grateful my kids are OK," she said.
