A Philadelphia police officer was arrested Thursday for allegedly breaking into his girlfriend's apartment in the middle of the night March 5, stealing something, then chasing her outside, according to police.

Officer Alex McAdams, 28, a four-year veteran assigned to the 15th District, turned himself in to Internal Affairs and will face charges of burglary, trespassing, and related offenses, police said.

Commissioner Richard Ross suspended McAdams for 30 days with intent to dismiss, according to police.

McAdams is accused of removing a screen from a side window of his girlfriend's first-floor apartment at 4:10 a.m., police said. He then stole "a personal item," police said, and chased his girlfriend out of the apartment. He was off-duty at the time.

Police did not identify McAdams' girlfriend or say where the alleged crime occurred, or elaborate on what McAdams is accused of stealing.

It was not immediately clear whether McAdams had hired a lawyer.
