Philadelphia police on Friday identified the officer who fired shots at an armed suspect during a foot pursuit Tuesday in the city's Ogontz section.
Officer Daniel McMonagle, an eight-year veteran assigned to the 14th Police District, fired a total of four rounds while chasing Mike Marsenat, 22, who allegedly was armed with a semiautomatic pistol loaded with 13 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.
Marsenat, of the 1500 block of West Nedro Avenue, had been pulled over in the 5800 block of Old York Road because he was operating a car without headlights, police said. He was finally apprehended at 15th Street and West Chew Avenue. An investigation determined that the gun had been stolen in 2009.
Marsenat, who suffered some scrapes on his palms and knees, served a brief jail sentence this year for illegal possession of a firearm and was paroled in September.
McMonagle was assigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of the required Internal Affairs investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
