Shooting suspect Darryl Chisholm allegedly had two guns and 21 rounds of ammunition on him when he was shot and killed by four officers in North Philadelphia Monday, according to police.

The shooting was the 22nd officer-involved shooting of the year and the fifth fatal police-involved shooting in the city in 2016.

According to authorities, Chisholm, 31, of Huntingdon, Pa., had been identified as a suspect in an earlier shooting Monday on the 700 block of Clearfield Street in Kensington.

In that incident police said, Chisholm allegedly shot a 44-year-old man once in the upper back around 5:30 p.m. The victim was able to drive himself to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The victim told police that his shooter could be found on the 3100 block of North Darien Street. Responding officers said they spotted Chisholm there about 7 p.m. and when they asked him to take his hands out of his pockets, Chisholm allegedly ran away.

During the pursuit, officers saw that Chisholm had a gun in his hand and they yelled for him to drop it, police said. But instead of dropping the gun, Chisholm turned and pointed it at a police sergeant and the sergeant fired his weapon, authorities said.

Chisholm was hit and collapsed to the ground but he allegedly was able to reach for a second firearm in his possession. It was then that two sergeants and two officers all fired at Chisholm, striking him in the torso and both thighs.

A police spokeswoman did not know how many shots the officers fired at Chisholm or how many times he was hit.

Chisholm was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 7:18 p.m.

Police said they recovered a .357-caliber revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition from Chisholm along with a 9mm Ruger with a round in the chamber and an empty magazine. A Ruger magazine with 15 rounds was also recovered on the street, police said.

According to court records, Chisholm was sentenced to five-to-10 years in state prison in 2009 for firearms violations. It is unclear from those records when he was paroled.

As is standard protocol, all officers involved in the incident will be placed on desk duty while an Internal Affairs investigation is conducted.
