Motorist dies after head-on crash with SEPTA bus near airport

A motorist died after striking a SEPTA bus head-on early Saturday near Philadelphia International Airport, authorities said. The accident occurred about 12:30 a.m. when a vehicle driving on Hog Island Road, in Tinicum Township, hit a Route 68 bus head-on, SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch said. The bus had no passengers on board, and was on its way to pick up employees working at the UPS facility at the airport at the beginning of its route, he said.

The driver of the other vehicle, who was approaching the bus from the opposite direction, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, Busch said. No details were available about this driver.

The male bus driver suffered a minor knee injury.

The Tinicum Township Police Department is leading the investigation into the accident. No one was available to comment at the department Saturday.
