A man who walked into a Grays Ferry business Friday seeking employment allegedly shot and injured a 58-year-old employee inside, police said Saturday.
The shooting happened shortly before 3 p.m. Friday inside the Northern Liberty Food Processors company at 1400 Warfield St., near 34th and Wharton Streets and the Schuylkill Expressway.
The victim told police he was shot by a man who came into the business looking for work, but who then pulled out a revolver, police said Saturday.
The gunman and victim got into a struggle, during which the victim was shot twice - once in the shoulder and once in the stomach, police said.
The gunman then started asking where money was kept, and the victim then fled from the building with a coworker, who was also in the office at the time of the shooting, police said.
Police who responded to the shooting found the victim behind the building. The victim was transported by medics to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.
The gunman was described as black, about 6 feet tall, of thin build, with short hair. He was wearing dark-framed glasses, blue jeans and a dark jacket.
