A Philadelphia man was arrested Friday after allegedly trying to make off with $68,000 from an ATM in Bensalem Township, Bucks County.

Dennis McLernan, 50, who services ATMs and delivers money for a security company, had a key to an ATM at Tru-Mark Financial on Old Lincoln Highway. He stuffed the cash into a duffel back and damaged the machine to make it look as though it had been forced open, Bensalem police said.

When an alarm at the bank was activated, police arrived, and McLernan attempted to flee.

He was charged with burglary, theft and related offenses and is jailed in Bucks County in lieu of 10 percent of $75,000 bail.

McLernan did not appear to have an attorney as of Friday morning.

A hearing is set for Nov. 30.
