A 33-year-old man was killed and a woman critically injured in an accident in the Far Northeast Friday night involving a motorcycle and a Jeep.

Just before 6:45 p.m., the motorcycle was heading east on Grant Avenue at Academy Road when the Jeep pulled out of a parking lot. It appears that the motorcycle rider laid down the bike to avoid crashing, but his body flew into the Jeep, said Chief Inspector Scott Small. His 24-year-old female passenger also may have hit the Jeep. The motorcycle slid several hundred feet.

The man was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus and pronounced dead at 7:17 p.m. The woman was listed in critical condition. The Jeep's driver and a passenger were not hurt and remained at the scene.

The cause of the death was under investigation. - Robert Moran
