Germantown man wounded in shootout with police

Police have identified a 33-year-old man who was wounded while allegedly exchanging gunfire with officers Friday night in the city's Kensington section.

Police have identified a 33-year-old man who was wounded while allegedly exchanging gunfire with officers Friday night in the city's Kensington section.

Charles Gordon of the 5300 block of Wakefield Street in East Germantown was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses. He was recovering at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Police said Gordon was armed with a gun when he led officers in a foot chase over several blocks. The pursuit ended in the 2900 block of Amber Street, where he allegedly raised his gun towards police and five officers opened fire. Gordon allegedly had exchanged gunfire with two officers moments earlier. A 36-year-old woman was struck in a calf by a stray bullet.

The officers were identified as Anderson Jimenez, Anthony Agudo, Benjamin Cespedes, Timothy Miller, Raymond Kirk Jr., Gregory Creachen, and Sgt. Steven Wood. They were assigned to desk duty pending an Internal Affairs investigation.
