A 23-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle crashed on Roosevelt Boulevard early in the morning, police said.

About 12:40 a.m., the driver of the 2005 Suzuki motorcycle was riding on C Street and crossing the boulevard, at the border of Olney and Feltonville, when he lost control, police said.

The motorcycle slid down onto the road and skidded into a 2004 Nissan Murano SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction on C Street and was about to turn left onto a southbound lane of the boulevard.

The motorcyclist suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at 2:22 p.m. at Einstein Medical Center, police said. His name was not immediately released. The SUV driver was uninjured and stayed at the scene.

Runner struck by vehicle in Olney dies

A 20-year-old woman who was struck Friday by a vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard in Olney died Saturday afternoon, police said.

The woman had been out running shortly before 5 p.m. Friday when she was hit by a 2012 Chevy Equinox in the outer southbound lanes of the boulevard near Bingham Street.

The investigation showed the woman was crossing the outer southbound lanes of the boulevard, where there was a crosswalk, but was running against a red light, police said.

Police said the woman ran into the side of the SUV and was thrown onto the windshield, falling onto the road. She suffered severe head injuries and was transported by medics to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:51 p.m. Saturday.

The 56-year-old man driving the SUV had just crossed over from the inner lanes of the boulevard to the outer southbound lanes when the accident happened.

The driver stayed at the scene. Police did not release any names.

Man fatally shot in

SW Phila.

Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday in Southwest Philadelphia.

About 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of a "person with a gun" on the 2100 block of South 66th Street. They found a 26-year-old man inside a Hyundai Sonata, suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg and side, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released pending family notification, was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:14.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated the victim had been selling drugs when two unknown men came around a corner and began shooting at him. Police are searching for the two men.

1,000 lose power after Peco cable is damaged

About 1,000 Peco Energy Co. customers lost power in the West Philadelphia and Overbrook neighborhoods for about an hour Saturday after an underground Peco power cable was damaged, a spokesman for the utility said.

Peco crews went to investigate about 11:45 a.m., spokesman Ben Armstrong said. It is not yet clear what caused the damage, he said. A police spokeswoman said there was a report of a manhole cover blowing off at the intersection of 63rd and Race Streets at about that time. No one was injured.

Armstrong said Peco workers were able to find the damaged cable and restored power to the 1,082 customers affected at about 12:40 p.m. He said he did not know if a manhole cover had dislodged or not.

Molotov cocktail thrown at Mt. Airy house

Someone threw a Molotov cocktail at an East Mount Airy house early Saturday, police said. A 70-year-old man inside the house at the time was not injured.

The firebomb missed smashing through the front window of the house on the 1000 block of Dorset Street, police said. But it did burn the area outside the window.

The man inside the house told police he did not see the perpetrator. The incident happened about 12:40 a.m. and remains under investigation. - Julie Shaw

3 men sought in W. Oak Lane home robbery

Philadelphia police are investigating an armed home-invasion robbery in West Oak Lane early Saturday morning.

About 5:15 a.m., three men entered a home on the 6600 block of North 17th Street through the rear basement, police said. At least one had a gun.

Once inside, the intruders pistol-whipped the man living in the house and stole a Toshiba laptop, $600 in cash, a cellphone, and an Xbox game system.

The resident was taken by police to Einstein Medical Center, where he was in stable condition. No arrests have been made. - Julie Shaw

Girl, 3, injured in a fall from 2d-floor window

A 3-year-old girl was injured Saturday afternoon after she fell from a second-floor window of a home in Germantown, police said.

The incident happened on the 500 block of Manheim Street about 12:20 p.m. The girl hit the back of her head and was taken by medics to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Her condition was not known, police said. - Julie Shaw

Decomposed body found in N. Phila. home

A man's body was found Friday afternoon inside a North Philadelphia home, police said Saturday.

The body, which was decomposed, was found in the 1800 block of North 26th Street. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death.

2 hurt as vehicle overturns on A.C. Expressway

Two people were taken to a hospital after the vehicle they were in overturned early Saturday on the Atlantic City Expressway in Camden County, authorities said.

The accident happened about 3:15 a.m. in a westbound lane near Exit 38 in Winslow Township. One vehicle overturned into the woods, a county dispatcher said.

The New Jersey State Police, which is investigating, said two people were taken to a hospital. No information was immediately available on the extent of their injuries. - Julie Shaw
