Cops: Suspect arrested after leaving debit card at robbery scene

Police have made an arrest in two Northeast Philadelphia robberies after the suspect allegedly left his debit card at the scene of one of the crimes.

Marc J. Beaver, 40, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at his Morrell Park home.

Police said Beaver acted as though he was going to use a debit card to buy a cigarette lighter from a Lukoil on Franklin Mills Circle shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday.

During the transaction, he allegedly pulled a knife on the clerk and demanded money. The employee refused and chased Beaver from the station, according to investigators.

Police said Beaver left behind the debit card, which had his name on it and enabled detectives to identify him as the suspect.

Beaver is also being charged in connection with a robbery that occurred six hours earlier on Monday.

In that incident, Beaver took a candy bar to the counter of a Wawa at 10550 Knights Rd. and handed the cashier a $1 bill, police said.

When the employee opened the register, Beaver allegedly pulled out a knife and forced the clerk to back away. He then reached into the register, grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot, police said.

Beaver is charged with two counts each of robbery, possession of an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, along with one count each of theft by unlawful taking, attempted theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, court records indicate.

He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon and a judge set his bail at 10 percent of $20,000.

Beaver is next due in court Aug. 5 for a preliminary hearing.
