Dilworth Park ice rink debuts with free skating at City Hall

The Rothman Institute Ice Rink at City Hall’s Dilworth Park will officially open Friday with three hours of free ice skating.

The ice rink at City Hall's Dilworth Park will officially open Friday, kicking off its debut with three hours of free skating.

The Rothman Institute Ice Rink will be open to the public immediately following a noon ribbon cutting, and skating will be free until 3 p.m., the Center City District said in a news release.

Opening festivities will also include figure-skating performances and an appearance by the Philadelphia Boys Choir.

After 3 p.m., admission will cost $3 for children 10 and younger and $4 for adults, plus $8 for skate rentals.

The rink, near 15th and Market streets, will remain open seven days a week through Feb. 22.

Its hours of operations will be Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Operated and managed by the Mechanicsville, Va.-based Rink Management Services Corporation, the site will offer Sunday morning skating classes and be available for party rentals.

The ice rink is part of a $55 million overhaul of the public plaza on the west side of City Hall. Other components of the project, including a re-landscaped public space, fountains and a café, were unveiled in September.

More information is available on the Center City District's website.
