A Chester County man and a Maryland man were killed Wednesday morning after two cars collided on a stretch of US Route 13 in Delaware, state police said.

According to Delaware State Police, a 2014 Ford Taurus, operated by 31-year-old Nour-Eddine H. Baassiri, of Salisbury, Maryland, collided with a 2006 Scion TC, driven by 42-year-old Robert W. Truitt of Downingtown, just after 10 a.m. near Laurel, Del..

State police said Baassiri's Taurus veered into the unprotected grass median on the left side of the road before sliding out of control and landing in the path of the TC.

Baassiri was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, but his passenger, 28-year-old Dewit Yewendwosen Teferi of Ocean City, Md., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Truitt was transported to the Peninsula Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Baassiri will be charged with causing death with a motor vehicle, inattentive driving, failure to maintain lane, and a seat belt violation, state police said.
