Extra SEPTA service planned for New Year's Eve

Extra late-night SEPTA service will be available tonight for New Year's Eve revelers, while a number of bus routes will face detours Wednesday for the Mummers Parade.

Regional Rail trains will depart after midnight, with exact times varying by line, and subway service on the Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines will run until 1 a.m.

SEPTA said extra subway trains will be on standby for the two routes as crowds leave both of tonight's fireworks shows at Penn's Landing.

And for those ringing in 2014 in New York City, early SEPTA trains will depart from Trenton (passengers can take early-morning New Jersey Transit trains from New York to Trenton) at 3:30 a.m., 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Additional PATCO and N.J. Transit service will be in place for New Year's Eve as well.

PATCO will run several extra trains overnight between 12:05 a.m. and 2:05 a.m. from Center City to Lindenwold.

On N.J. Transit, extra New York-bound trains will run between 10 a.m. and noon, and again during the evening, on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Morris & Essex Lines.

Special trains will operate on most lines after midnight.

In Camden, the River Line will have extended late-night service and after-midnight servivce for those attending festivities on the waterfront.

Timetables for all adjusted and extra N.J. Transit routes are on the agency's website.

On New Year's Day, subways, buses, trolleys, suburban transit and Regional Rail routes will all run on Sunday schedules.

A number of buses -- routes 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 16, 17, 21, 23, 27, 29, 31, 32, 33, 37, 38, 42, 44, 48, 64, 79, 124 and 125 -- will be detoured Wednesday during the Mummers Parade.

Specifics on the detours for each route are available on SEPTA's website.

Like SEPTA, adjusted schedules will be in place for PATCO and N.J. Transit on New Year's Day.

PATCO trains will be running less frequently than usual, with exact times available on the transit agency's website. After the special late-night service ends, N.J. Transit lines will run on weekend/major holiday schedules.
