Flood watch into Thursday

Up to 5 inches of rain possible by Thursday morning, weather service says.

Despite Friday's rains, precipitation for the month remains well below normal throughout the region, better than one-third below in Philadelphia and Camden County, where rainfall has been well under 2.5 inches.

But hold your hoses: By Thursday morning, the dawn of May, this has a chance of becoming one of the wetter Aprils in the period of record.

The National Weather Service has posted a flood watch for Philadelphia, adjacent South Jersey and all of southeastern Pennsylvania from Tuesday night into Friday morning.

The weather service says 3 to 5 inches of rain is possible, with widespread stream flooding likely, and perhaps even river flooding.

Showers are expected overnight and tomorrow, with the heaviest rain falling Wednesday into Wednesday night.

The flood watch laps into Thursday morning to take into account the various river stream crests.

The major question to resolve is precisely where the heaviest axis of rain will set up. The latest guidance suggests the area from the I-95 corridor westward.
