Man gets 15 years for attacks near Independence Hall
A 47-year-old Camden man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for a series of muggings near Independence National Historical Park in Old City.
Santos Centeno was convicted of attacking a man who asked for help finding a missing car on 4th Street near the park in June 2012.
Centeno and his nephew -- 26-year-old Baldwin Centeno, who was sentenced last month to four years and nine months in prison -- brutally beat the man, causing brain injuries, facial fractures and other wounds, prosecutors said.
Santos Centeno also mugged a couple walking near the historical site, robbing them of a cell phone and money.
U.S. District Judge Juan R. Sanchez also ordered him to serve three years of supervised release and pay $6,461 in restitutation and a $220 special assessment.
