Man stabbed to death in West Philadelphia; suspect in custody

A man was stabbed to death on the 5200 block of Market Street in West Philadelphia, and a suspect was taken into custody, police said.

A suspect is in custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 60-year-old man early Saturday in West Philadelphia.

Officers responded shortly after 12:45 a.m. to the 5200 block of Market Street, where they found the victim lying in the street, police said. He had been stabbed in his neck and face.

The man was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died about 1:30 a.m. His identity was not released, pending notification of his family members.

Officers at the scene saw a man who fit the stabbing suspect's description and stopped him for investigation, police said. He was positively identified as the alleged offender and taken into custody.

The suspect had not yet been processed Saturday afternoon, and his name was not released.

Police did not disclose a possible motive for the slaying.
