One person was killed, 20 others were hospitalized Monday night after a vehicle and SEPTA trolley bus collided in Northeast Philadelphia, authorities said.

According to police, a vehicle, occupied by a driver and a passenger, rear-ended a Route 75 trolley bus just before 7:30 p.m. at Penn and Arrott Streets. Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where the driver was pronounced dead and the passenger is in critical condition.

Eighteen others who were riding on the bus at the time of collision, and the bus driver, were also sent to to Einstein with non-life threatening injuries, according to Manny Smith, a SEPTA spokesman.

Smith said the bus driver is being treated with neck and shoulder injuries.

SEPTA investigators and police are investigating the incident.
