Pedestrian, 17, killed in Gloucester County crash

A 17-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Gloucester County on Christmas Eve.

Washington Township police said officers were called to Fries Mill Road and White Birch Road at about 5:45 p.m., after a 2005 Ford Escape driving south on Fries Mill Road struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

The teenager was then struck by a 2007 Mack dump truck that was traveling behind the Escape, police said.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was taken to Cooper University Hospital's trauma center and later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said it wasn't known why the Washington Township teenager was in the road, and both vehicles crossed the intersection at a green traffic signal.

Neither driver was injured.

Officials said it hasn't been determined whether charges will be filed against the Escape driver, 55-year-old James Divito, of Cherry Hill.

Police said the accident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call police at 856-589-6650 or send an email to jwbradford@pd.twp.washington.nj.us.
