Pedestrian fatally struck by Amtrak train in Philadelphia

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Philadelphia late Sunday night.

An Amtrak spokesman said the Northeast Regional train, which was en route to Washington, D.C., from Boston, hit someone who was trespassing on the tracks in Philadelphia's Bridesburg section at about 11:40 p.m.

The pedestrian, who was not identified, was killed.

No other injuries were reported, Amtrak said.

The train, which was carrying 496 passengers at the time, was delayed for about two and a half hours while authorities responded to the scene and investigated.

Three other Amtrak trains faced delays Sunday night but normal service was operating this morning, Amtrak said.
