The baby, of Cotton Street near Tower, was found unresponsive in his crib just after 7 a.m. this morning and taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where doctors declared him dead at 7:47 a.m., said Officer Christine O'Brien, a police spokeswoman.
Homicide detectives, who typically investigate suspicious deaths, were on the scene this morning. Police reported "possible signs of trauma," but further details were unavailable.
UPDATE, 2:55 p.m.: O'Brien reports that the Special Victims Unit is no longer considering this a suspicious death. Autopsy results, which would determine the cause and manner of death, haven't been released yet.
