An argument over a woman in North Philadelphia prompted a shooting that left a man hospitalized Saturday night, police said.

The victim, 35, told investigators he was walking along the 2700 block of Dover Street around 11 p.m., when an unknown man approached and began arguing with him about a woman they both knew.

The victim said he wanted nothing to do with the woman and tried to walk away, and the man pulled out a handgun and shot him in his left calf, according to authorities.

Police said the victim ran around the corner to a friend's house on the 2800 block of North 27th Street and called 911.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspect is described only as a short black male wearing dark-colored clothing.

Police reported no arrest Sunday afternoon.
