One man is hospitalized and a second is in custody after a shooting early Sunday in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia.

Police were alerted to the crime around 12:30 a.m., when officers in the area of 46th and Parrish streets heard gunshots and disseminated the information over emergency radio.

About two minutes later, police received a radio call reporting a shooting on the 4900 block of Hoopes Street.

There, officers found a 46-year-old man lying in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Police took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was rushed into the operating room. His identity was not released.

Officers determined the shooting occurred at a home on the 4900 block of Hoopes, police said.

An occupant let them inside and directed them to the second floor, where they found a 31-year-old man hiding under a bed in the master bedroom, according to investigators.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. His identity wasn't immediately released, and there was no word on whether he was facing charges.

Authorities described the investigation as ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
