Police identify woman found buried behind Frankford home

Kelly Hepfl, 39, was stabbed and buried behind a home on the 4700 block of Frankford Avenue, police said.

Philadelphia police have identified a woman whose body was found buried behind a home in the Frankford section of the city.

Kelly Hepfl, 39, suffered multiple stab wounds to her head, neck and chest, police said.

Her body was discovered about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a man flagged down patrol officers to report a possible corpse in a backyard along the 4700 block of Frankford Avenue, police said.

There, officers saw a human foot buried in the soil.

Crime scene investigators exhumed Hepfl's body, which was wrapped in black plastic bags, police said.

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide by stabbing.

Hepfl last lived on the 8300 block of Frankford Avenue in Holmesburg, according to investigators.

Though police earlier this week said a man was being questioned in connection with the case, no charges had been filed Saturday, and the investigation remained open and active, police said. Investigators weren't sure what prompted the slaying.

As with all homicides, the city is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
