Police investigating after abduction victim found in Olney

Philadelphia police are investigating after a man was reported abducted from near West Fairmount Park last night and found beaten in Olney.

Officers were called to an apartment complex on the 2700 block of Cranston Road shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, when neighbors heard a commotion and called authorities, said Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman.

Police encountered broken glass and other evidence of a struggle, and were told that a man had been taken. Police said the abducted man didn't live there, and the residence was believed to be a family member's.

It wasn't immediately known whether the victim was the intended target, officials said.

Investigators found the victim early this morning on the 700 block of West Chew Avenue in Olney. The 29-year-old man was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Officers also apprehended a suspect on Chew Avenue, a 34-year-old man who was taken into custody for questioning after a brief foot pursuit. No charges had been filed as of late morning, and Little said up to four men may have been involved in the crime.

The motive for the incident wasn't known, and detectives were continuing to sort out exactly what happened.

"There's still a lot of unanswered questions," Little said.
