Powerball jackpot rises to $400 million, 2 Pa. tickets win $1 million

The Powerball jackpot is up to $400 million, the fourth biggest in its history, because no one matched all the numbers drawn Saturday night.

They were 1, 17, 25, 37 and 44, with a Powerball of 20.

Eleven tickets came close, missing only the Powerball. Two sold in Pennsylvania were among 10 that won $1 million. The others were sold in New York, Maryland, Ohio, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Georgia and Idaho. A California ticket also matched the first five numbers, but won $2,479,122 under that state's pari-mutuel system.

Powerball's three biggest jackpots all happened in the last 10 months. The game's record of $590.5 million was set in May, when a Florida woman won and collected $370.9 million in cash (before taxes), the biggest lump-sum payout ever to an individual.

This run is also amazing because it's the first time two consecutive jackpots reached $400 million.

The Aug. 7 jackpot of $448.4 million was hit by three tickets, two of them sold in New Jersey, one in Minnesota. The cash jackpot of $258.2 million was split three ways.

The cash jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is $223.6 million.
