Pro-police rally planned in South Philadelphia

Taking Our South Philadelphia Streets Back plans to stage a rally in support of police officers at Broad Street and Oregon Avenue.

A South Philadelphia-based community group has announced plans to stage a rally in support of police officers Sunday afternoon.

The event will start at 4 p.m. at Broad Street and Oregon Avenue, according to a flier from Taking Our South Philadelphia Streets Back.

Participants plan to walk up Broad Street to the City Hall apron, where they will hold a memorial ceremony for Philadelphia police officers killed in the line of duty.

Organizers do not plan on blocking traffic and have asked marchers to remain on the sidewalk, when possible. "Our goal is to show support for law enforcement and not to impede law abiding citizens as they travel along Broad Street," the flier states.

After the memorial, attendees will ride south on the Broad Street subway, back to Oregon Avenue, in a show of support for SEPTA transit police.

The event is open to all who wish to participate, and those who are unable to march are encouraged to set up rally points on the sidewalk along the route, according to the listing.

Organizers will also be selling $15 T-shirts, with proceeds benefiting the Fraternal Order of Police Survivors Fund.
