Serial rapist convicted of West Philadelphia attacks

Eric Rogers, 23, was found guilty of choking, robbing and raping five women as they walked in West Philadelphia, the District Attorney's Office announced.

A West Philadelphia man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting five different women on separate occasions in 2012 and 2013.

Eric Rogers, 23, was convicted Thursday of four counts of rape; two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse; three counts each of aggravated assault and robbery; and a slew of related offenses, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office announced.

During a trial before Common Pleas Court Judge Donna Woelpper, three victims testified that Rogers approached and attempted to strike up conversations with them as they walked in West Philadelphia.

Each time, Rogers grabbed the women from behind, beat them and choked them into unconsciousness before raping and robbing them, prosecutors said.

In one case, he stole the Social Security cards of the victim's children and threatened to kill them if she called police.

Rogers, in his testimony, alleged each woman had consented to sexual intercourse.

When confronted with photographs depicting their injuries, including bruising, lacerations and strangulation marks on their necks, he claimed someone or something else must have caused them.

DNA linked him to all three assaults, prosecutors said.

Rogers was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and Megan's Law assessment before his sentencing, scheduled for June 19.
