Suspected gunman arrested in Florida

A man accused of fatally shooting another man in a Mantua convenience store on Nov. 10 was arrested in Orange Park, Florida, on Tuesday, a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Several children were inside the J & R Perez Grocery on 38th Street near Aspen when a reckless gunman entered just before 8:30 a.m. and fired four shots that would kill Maurice McDonald, 22, and a regular customer at the store.

Marshals working with the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit tracked the suspected shooter, Kayree Reed, to Orange Park, a suburb of Jacksonville, assistant chief deputy Jim Burke of the U.S. Marshals told the Daily News.

Authorities traced Reed to a house in Orange Park and staked it out before seeing Reed as a passenger in a Ford Expedition leaving the property.

The driver, whose child was in the back seat of the SUV, tried to flee upon seeing law enforcement and struck a police cruiser. No one was injured in the crash, and Reed was arrested afterward, Burke said.

Reed is expected to make an initial appearance Wednesday in Clay County Court, where a judge will discuss his extradition to Philadelphia.
