A West Oak Lane man has been arrested for allegedly attacking his wife and children during a domestic dispute early Sunday, leaving two of them hospitalized with stab wounds.

Stephen Burton, 41, is charged with three counts each of attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, along with two counts of possessing an instrument of crime.

Officers responded about 12:30 a.m. to a home on the 1900 block of Dallas Road, where they found Burton's wife, 37, and daughter, 21 months. The woman suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center. The child had been stabbed in her chest and was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Both were placed in critical condition.

Burton's 4-year-old son hit his head on a wall and suffered a superficial injury; the woman was able to stop her husband from stabbing the child, police said.

A witness told investigators that Burton fled the home after the attack. Police caught up with him around 8 p.m. Sunday, taking him into custody on Interstate 95 near the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore.

Burton waived his rights at a schedule hearing Tuesday and was extradited to Philadelphia, where a judge on Thursday denied a motion to set bail, according to court records.

He is next due in court for a status hearing Sept. 4.
