A severe early morning fire at a Landsdale bowling alley closed three nearby schools.

At 8 this morning, firefighters were still working at the Lansbowl, a landmark on Main Street. Surrounding roads had been off-limits for hours.

Closed as a result were Lansdale Catholic High School, Penndale Middle School and St. Stanislaus School.

According to Penndale's Web site, "The school is not involved in this emergency, but needs to be closed due to a lack of access to the surrounding roadways in Lansdale." Penndale has 1,400 students in seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

St. Stanislaus School, only a quarter-mile from the fire, canceled classes and all after-school activities. It serves 430 students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.

St. Stanislaus Parish, whose church is across the street from the school, also suspended activities for the day.
