An 18-year-old man was charged today with attempted murder in the shooting of a woman at an anti-violence vigil Tuesday night, police said.
Kalim Williams was arrested at his home in the 1200 block of Marlyn Road in Overbrook Thursday, said Lt. John F. Walker of Southwest Detectives. Williams told police he had a pending gun possession case in Family Court.
Williams is accused of shooting Bianca Junious, 18, in the back as she tried to flee with some other young women in a gold Oldsmobile 88 from the 6000 block of Market Street, where a vigil was being held for Terrence Walker, 19, who was shot to death there early Sunday.
Junious, of Southwest Philadelphia, happened to be with some other young women associated with a 56th Street gang.
Though Williams lived in Overbrook, he hung out with the 60th Street gang, which has been warring with the 56th Street gang for several years, Lt. Walker said.
About 150 people were attending the vigil when a gold Mercury Grand Marquis stopped in the middle of the intersection of 61st and Market and a group of teenagers from 60th Street emerged at about 8 p.m..
Williams was in the crowd at the time and joined the 60th Street group as they confronted the females from 56th Street, Walker said.
Williams then allegedly shot three times at the 56th Street females and wounded Junious, who was taken to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. She was treated and released.
When police arrested Williams, they found drugs and drug-related paraphernalia at his home, Lt. Walker said.
