6-alarm fire closes bridge, snarls morning rush

A Northeast warehouse fire reported at midnight forced the closing of the Tacony Palymra bridge for hours, and was still causing detours and delays during the morning commute.

No one was hurt in the fire, which occurred in a warehouse at Milner and Robbins Streets, the fire department said.

To help get enough water to control the six-alarmer, fire boats were used.

The fire was brought under control in a few hours, but not before wind helped spread the fire to nearby buildings in the complex.

As firefighters continued working at the scene at 8 a.m., some side streets remained closed, and traffic backed up on I-95 North.

A ramp from the Tacony Palmyra bridge to State Road will be closed until about 4 p.m. today, according to traffic.com.

The cause is being investigated.
