A Philadelphia police officer was arrested today and charged with sexually assaulting a man in Fairmount Park during a road stop in March.

Officer Michael Paige, 40, has been suspended from the force, with the department intending to dismiss him.

According to police, Paige was in uniform and in a marked patrol car March 16 when he stopped a 1995 Lincoln Continental in Fairmount Park for investigation. The nature of the stop was not disclosed.

During the road stop, Paige took one of the two male occupants of the car to a secluded section of the park, where the officer "engaged in non-consensual sexual activity" with the victim, police said in a statement.

Paige, a 171/2-year veteran of the force, has been charged with unlawful restraint and deviant sexual intercourse.
