Maple Shade man dies in hit-and-run

A Maple Shade man died early this morning after being struck by a car operated by an alleged drunken driver, who fled the scene but was apprehended later, authorities said.

A Maple Shade man died early this morning after being struck by a car operated by an alleged drunken driver, who fled the scene but was apprehended later, authorities said.

Robert L. Young, 50, was driving westbound on Route 70 near Massachusetts Avenue in Cherry Hill around 11:30 p.m. when he was struck. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he died about an hour later.

Efrain Cardona, 35, of the Barclay Tower apartments on Route 70, is charged with vehicular homicide, eluding police and driving while intoxicated, police said.

The investigation is continuing by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and Cherry Hill Police.
