A 35-year-old woman delivered a baby boy this morning in a car on the shoulder of I-95, authorities said.

She was headed southbound near the Allegheny Exit when she stopped, and traffic became delayed.

Emergency services got the call at 7:18 a.m., said Executive Fire Chief Daniel Williams.

About 20 minutes later medics had helped the pregnant woman deliver a baby boy, said Officer Beth DiDonato, a police spokeswoman.

Police escorted medics as they took mother and baby to Northeastern Hospital, where the both mother and baby are doing well, DiDonato said.

Who was driving isn't clear. Two relatives were also in the car, DiDonato said.
