Officers responding to a 911 call at a Tredyffrin Township residence on Wednesday evening discovered a "suspicious death," police said today.
Tredyffrin Police Superintendent Richard C. Harkness said he was waiting for autopsy results before determining whether the death of a 60-year-old man in the 200 block of Vassar Circle was a homicide.
Late this afternoon police brought in a crane to help with a search of the property.
Chester County Coroner Robert Satriale said the victim, whom he identified as Michael W. Caulder, had been shot. An autopsy was scheduled for late afternoon, he said.
Harkness said the 911 caller had reported an "unconscious person" about 5 p.m. Caulder was pronounced dead at the scene, Harkness said.
People in the community should not be alarmed, Harkness said. He said there was no sign of forced entry that might suggest a "random act of violence."
He said investigators were working nonstop to determine "a cause of death and any culpability."
