1 dead, 1 injured on Garden State Parkway

A female passenger was killed this morning in an accident on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County.

A 2003 Mercedes being driven by Ben Pham, 52, crashed into a concrete abutment of the Barnegat Township Toll Plaza at 12:25 a.m. His 44-year-old passenger, Su-Ping Xia of Egg Harbor Township, died on impact.

Xia, who was not wearing a seat belt, died of massive head trauma.

Pham was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, including head injuries and multiple leg fractures.

According to New Jersey State Police, the roads were wet and slippery.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office was investigating.
