A pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak train and killed this morning in Delaware County.

A pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak train and killed this morning in Delaware County.

The train - an Amtrak Acela Express traveling from Wilmington to Philadelphia - hit the man at about 10:30 a.m. near the 400 block of Highland Avenue in Chester.

The victim, described by Chester police as a white male in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.

Five Amtrak trains and a SEPTA R2 train were delayed in both directions for more than an hour, officials said.

The Acela train, which was carrying 267 passengers, was traveling about 110 m.p.h. - the authorized speed for that area, Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero said.

Passengers on the Acela train were transferred to another train to continue the train trip. No passenger injuries were reported.
