The sixth grade class from Springside School will be honored by the Schuylkill Action Network this morning for their work on stormwater management projects on the school's campus in Chestnut Hill.

Students from the private girls' school and teacher Mary Ann Boyer will recognized during an 11:15 a.m. award ceremony at the Fairmount Waterworks Interpretive Center for creating a rain garden in a traffic circle on campus.

Springside has worked for the past year with the Philadelphia Water Department and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to manage stormwater which flows from the campus to the nearby Wissahickon Creek, which in turn empties into the Schuylkill River.

Among other things, Springside students planted native plants in the traffic circle, monitored runoff from that garden and conductedn soil tests.

Students from Kutztown High School and Albright College in Reading also will be recognized for their projects during the "Source Water Protection Award Ceremony."
