Sitar player faces sex counts involving girl, 14

Shafaatullah Khan, a well-known Indian classical musician who lives in King of Prussia, is charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

A well-known Indian classical musician has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who was taking private lessons from him.

Shafaatullah Khan, 42, of King of Prussia, has been charged by Upper Merion Township police with multiple counts of corruption of a minor, indecent assault and related sexual offenses.

Khan plays sitar, surbahar and tabla and teaches Indian classical music on a wide array of instruments. He is featured in at least 16 CDs and has played in concerts throughout the world. Last April, he played a sitar concerto with the Mansfield University Orchestra at the Kimmel Center, and he is scheduled to play this August at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square.

Khan's attorney, Vincent DiFabio, said he is looking forward to a trial, where he said Khan will be exonerated.
