Fire damages Audubon pizza shop

Kings Highway in Audubon, Camden County, was closed this morning because of a fire at a pizza parlor.

Kings Highway in Audubon, Camden County, was closed this morning because of a fire at a pizza parlor.

After the 1-alarm blaze at Toscano's Pizzeria & Trattoria was reported at 5:21 a.m., fire fighters from four towns went to scene.

About 6 a.m. - when the fire was declared under control - two fire fighters descended a ladder from the roof; a handful of others walked past the broken-out front windows into the small dining room; and two dozen others stood on the sidewalk.

A half-dozen fire and ambulance vehicles filled Kings Highway between Crystal Lake Avenue and the White Horse Pike.

The fire broke out in the kitchen, at the rear of the first floor, said Camden County Fire Marshal Paul Hartstein.

The cause was under investigation, but the first impression was that the fire was not suspicious, Hartstein said.

No one was injured, and the adjacent John's Barber Shop suffered no fire damage, he said.

Units from Audubon, Mount Ephraim, Haddon Heights and Westmont responded.
