2nd chance for Delco parents behind in child support payments

Delaware County parents who are not paid up on child support are getting a second chance this week.

Delaware County parents who are not paid up on child support are getting a second chance this week.

The Sheriff's Office Bench Warrant Unit is holding it's annual Amnesty Week for those in arrears of their support payments.

There are currently 1,800 open Domestic Bench Warrants and approximately $25 million in unpaid child support in Delaware County, according to the Sheriff's department.

Parents who want to avoid arrest can appear at the Domestic Relations Office at the Media Courthouse during business hours this week to make a lump sum payment and get on payment plans.

Those parents who do not keep current with their child support payments can face arrest, suspension of a driver's license, and forfeit tax refunds.

Last year 212 parents took advantage of the program.
