Camden County prosecutor candidate approved by N.J. committee

Gov. Corzine's nominee to be the next Camden County prosecutor sailed through his interview before the Senate Judiciary Committee today, easily winning unanimous approval.

Gov. Corzine's nominee to be the next Camden County prosecutor sailed through his interview before the Senate Judiciary Committee today, easily winning unanimous approval.

Next, trial attorney Warren W. Faulk will face a vote before the entire Senate, likely later this month. Faulk, of Haddonfield, is a senior partner at the Westmont firm Brown & Connery.

Camden County has had an interim prosecutor for more than two years, since Vincent Sarubbi resigned. Since 2003, the Camden prosecutor has also overseen Camden Police.

"I'm pleased that the committee approved my nomination and I look forward to this as a challenge," Faulk said. He added that he hopes to "simply continue the good work the office does now."

Faulk received only one question from the Judiciary Committee, from Sen. Bill Baroni (R., Mercer). Baroni asked Faulk whether he was the source of a leak several years ago for a story in the Inquirer about a potential judicial nominee. Faulk said he was not the source of the leak and that he did not know who was.

Sen. John Adler, (D., Cherry Hill), who chairs the Judiciary Committee, called Faulk an "extraordinary" attorney.

Faulk told the committee he has lived in Camden County for 60 years, and has worked with Brown & Connery since his first year as a law student, 37 years ago.

At Brown & Connery, Faulk has focused on civil litigation. He has represented the Inquirer in First Amendment cases.

Faulk has also served as a defense attorney and prosecutor for the U.S. Army, public defender in Camden County and municipal prosecutor in Barrington.

The road to filling the Camden prosecutor's office has been long. At least three other names were floated for the position before Faulk's.
