It’s off to the races in Delco this weekend

This weekend there will be four competitive runs across the county.

Tonight, the Running of the Monk kick starts the weekend. Registration at 5:30 p.m. is at the Knights of Columbus, 18 Baltimore Pike, Springfield. The race start is at 7:20 p.m. in the adjoining Netherwood Park. Entry fee is $20 for those who pre-register and $25 on race day.

There is a post-race pool party, with beach volleyball and barbecue and music by local bands Makin' Music and Almost Fab. The event is open to the public with pre-registration. Contact 610-328-3979 for more information.

Tomorrow morning, runners have their choice of events.

The Yeadon Flag Day Races will hold their sixth annual 5K run and 5K walk. Fitness walkers are welcome. There is also a shorter run for children age 10 and under that begins after the competitive race.

The race begins at Evans Elementary School on Baily Road in Yeadon. Registration will be at 7:30 with the race at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $10 for adults, $8 for students, and $4 for children.

There will be awards by age group in the competitive categories.

The Kimberly Clark Chester 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. at the Chester High School Track and Football Complex. The course winds through the City of Chester.

Children's races will follow at the track.

The Sheriff's Scholarship 5K run/walk to benefit students at two Delaware County schools is set to start Sunday morning.

The event will be held at Chichester Business Park, 1000 Columbia Ave., Linwood. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. with the run starting at 9:05 a.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to support students at Delaware County Community College and Holy Saviour-St. John Fisher School in Linwood.

Race day fees are $25 for a single entry, $45 for a family entry. Complimentary T-shirts will be available for those who have registered. There will be cash awards to the top three male and females overall, and for top three males and females over 40.
