A SEPTA commuter train struck and killed a teenage girl last night as she walked along the tracks in Cheltenham Township.
The R8 Fox Chase, carrying 18 passengers, was on its last run of the day when it struck the girl about 10:15 p.m. just south of the Lawndale station, said Gary Fairfax, a SEPTA spokesman.
No information about the victim was immediately available, said Cheltenham Township police, which responded to the accident on the border of the township and the city.
A SEPTA shuttlebus picked up the train passengers near Robbins and Newtown Avenues and delivered them to the final three stops on the line.
An investigation is continuing.
