The Federal Aviation Administration today was investigating an emergency landing by a CBS 3 helicopter at Mayfair Elementary School in the city's Northeast section after the chopper began to lose a large amount of oil.

The copter set down on one of two athletic fields adjacent to the school which was vacated for the day because of the Columbus Day holiday. There no injuries reported, officials said.

Station spokesperson Joanne Calabria said the craft was a backup chopper leased from U.S. Helicopters, Inc., based in the Northeast.

Calabria said the chopper was being used to cover a news event at the time when a warning light went on.

"It landed as is procedure," said Calabria.

She said the same problem had occurred with a leased helicopter several weeks ago in which a warning light came on for a different problem and the copter was forced to land at 2d and Masters Streets.
