A 2006 shooting that left a Southwest Philadelphia man paralyzed has now become a homicide, police said this morning.

A 2006 shooting that left a Southwest Philadelphia man paralyzed has now become a homicide, police said this morning.

Eugene Sims, 22, was found unconscious two months ago in his home in the 1800 block of South 55th Street and pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, said Officer Christine O'Brien.

A subsequent autopsy determined he died from complications of the injuries he suffered on July 21, 2006.

At 11:17 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 5400 block of Kingsessing Avenue and found Sims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and jaw.

A man was arrested for the shooting, but in February of this year a jury found him not guilty, O'Brien said.
